| Notes |
- Both "xìng" and "jiào" in Chinese are verbs. "Wǒ xìng..." means "I am surnamed..." The English sentence "My last name is Smith" would be "Wo xing Smith."
- There is no articles before
- nouns in Chinese. "I am a teacher." in English would be "Wǒ shì lǎoshī." in Chinese
